History of Pancho and Other useless Information |
"Don't let it end this way, tell them I said something" were reportedly the last words Pancho ever breathed ,as the assassin was swiftly ending Pancho's life. I hope to show others that Pancho didn't die in vain. Born Jun 5, 1878, his mother named him Jose Doroteo Arango Arambula. He was born in La Coyotada, San Juan del Rio, Durango Mexico. He died July 20, 1923 at only 45 years of age.His people called him Fransisco "Pancho" Villa, El Centauro del Norte. (The Centaur of the North) Pancho is buried in Mexico City, at the Monument to the Revolution. His rank of General of Mexico in the antireectionista revolutionary forces is what had eventually gotten him killed. |
While Rodolfo Fierro was the violent side of Pancho Villa, Tomas Urbina has been cited as the other half of Pancho Villa. Tomas, a general during the Mexican revolution became allied with Pancho and Emilio Zapata. In my opinion, this "good cop" "bad cop" relationship caused bad blood between the two "right hands" of Pancho. During the Battle of El Ebano, a 72 day siege of the town El Ebano in the state of San Luis Potosi, Urbina finally surrendered his soldiers to the Constitutionalists. Allegedly Urbina received a sum of money for his surrender. General Fierro executed Urbina, after accusing him of betraying Pancho Villa. Two great Generals, equals in Pancho Villa's great plan to rid Mexico of the class that has oppressed her and to give the people a chance to know what liberty meant, had battled each other. One killing the other in cold blood. "My sole ambition is to rid Mexico of the class that has oppressed her and give the people a chance to know what real liberty means. And If I could bring that about today by giving up my life, I would do it gladly." - General Franscisco "Pancho" Villa |
Rodolfo Fierro was a fearless hit man who was loyal to Pancho Villa According to legend, Fierro once shot a man dead just to see if he would fall forward or backward Pancho was not against getting his hands dirty Pancho Villa killed many men on and off the battlefield There were some jobs, however, that Pancho found too dirty Pancho left these jobs to the fearless sociopath Rodolfo Fierro Losing Rodolfo Fierro during the Campaign in 1915 Was a huge loss to Pancho Villa |
Jesus Salas Barraza confessed to the killing of Pancho Villa on July 20, 1923. Jesus was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 20 years in the state penitentiary in Chihuahua. Six months later Jesus was pardoned. The government deemed Pancho's death "beneficial to the country" Later Jesus Barraza came into the United States at El Paso, Texas. He was considered a political refugee. El Paso borders with Juarez, Mexico. In 1937 Jesus Barraza was appointed chief of state police in Juarez. Barraza died in Mexico, City in 1951. Some world we live in.. Confession and Conviction of Murder of another Mexican citizen and then Pardon and Becoming Chief of Police of that same Country.. because it was beneficial to the country? Viva Pancho Villa Viva la Revolution |
Another brilliant Western Musician and Songwriter is Tom Russell, he is a hidden gem, if you haven't heard his lyrics please be sure to check it out. In his song "Tonight we Ride" his spin on Pancho Villa about the raid of Columbus New Mexico. After Pancho's raid into Columbus New Mexico killing civilians General John G Pershing was dispatched by the US President Wilson to hunt down Villa. The Pancho Villa Expedition from March of 1916-February 1917 Despite successful location and defeat of the main body of Villa's command the US military was unable to complete the objective.. Find Pancho Villa and Capture him. During the same time of the expedition into Mexico the US had bigger fish to fry in the European theater, thus recalling Pershing's mission and army earlier than intended.. the US elected not to declare a war against Mexico as it was gearing up to face a bigger threat in the First World War. Tom Russell Tonight We Ride Lyrics: Pancho Villa crossed the border in the year of ought sixteen The people of Columbus still hear him riding through their dreams He killed seventeen civilians you could hear the women scream Blackjack Pershing on a dancing horse was waiting in the wings. |
Living on the road my friend, Was gonna keep you free and clean And now you wear your skin like iron, And your breath as hard as kerosene You weren't your mama's only boy, But her favorite one it seems She began to cry when you said goodbye, And sank into your dreams Pancho was a bandit boy, His horse was fast as polished steel He wore his gun outside his pants For all the honest world to feel Pancho met his match you know On the deserts down in Mexico, Nobody heard his dying words, Ah but that's the way it goes All the Federales say They could have had him any day They only let him slip away Out of kindness, I suppose Townes Van Zandt wrote these words, but to ask the singer songwriter, this verse wasn't about Pancho Villa at all. Merle Haggard and Willie recorded the song and turned it into a hit. They released the song in January of 1983 after recording it at Willie's Pedernales Recording Studio. The song and Album was originally titled, Poncho and Lefty but was later changed to Pancho and Lefty |
