My Journal/Blog
May 15, 2017
This is a picture of my cat. I am not really a "cat-person" but for some reason I always end up with one cat. Well anyway this cat's name use to be "Ellie" because the people who had "her" thought "she was a girl kitten. Well let me tell you what a shock it was to them when the vet told them they should think about changing "Ellie's" name! Well they knew I had just lost my little tiny kitten Ling-Ling. I had her just three months when she had a seizer and died. That is how I got Eli. Yes, now his name is Eli.
Eli is afraid of dogs, he use to live with big dog that chase him all the time. I have had him for almost two years now. He is quite vocal in the mornings when it is time for him to be fed. He likes warm milk at night before bedtime. After I have mine, I set my cup down with just a little bit in the bottom and Eli sticks his paw (left paw) in the cup and licks the milk off his paw. I forgot to tell you, Eli is a very big cat. he weighs 19 pounds.
The really strange thing about Eli is that he looks just like another cat I had many years ago. He and "Fluffy" are the same color and marked just a like. the thing is; I once wrote a short story about "The Cat who Could not be Given Away".

Good Morning,
I seem to be behind with my blogs. Today posted the first part of a 2 part article on arthritis. "You Have Arthritis, Now What Doc?" I hope it will be of some help. This first Part covers the introduction; whereas, the Part 2 is more about what I, personally, find to be helpful to me, in my life with arthritis.

Wisdom for today:

"Every time I thought I was being rejected from something, I was actually being re-directed to something better. (Dr. Steve Maraboli)

The thought for today: "For God has not given you the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7)
Good morning, what this Verse means to me is: I have the power to chose fear and stress or I can walk by faith.
For those of you who are not "religious" just look at the words forget that it came from the Bible. You do not have to fear, you have a sound mind to think thing through.
Have an awesome weekend

I am going try to leave a bit of wisdom every day (some might not be all that wise) but I would like to read your reactions.

Living On a Fixed Income
When Fixed Income Means Getting By:
Living on a fixed income can be hard but does not have to mean just getting by. As a married couple, my husband and I get $1479.00 a month. At first we were just making it. Rent takes up about 50 percent of our social security. We were only getting $162.00 in food stamps; therefore another 25 percent went for food. That meant we had to cut out a lot of the things we wanted to do.
Making a Budget on a Fixed Income:
I started to work out a budget. At first it seemed like we were always broke. As time went on we could see we were making headway. Just a little at first a couple dollars here and there. Here are some of the changes we made:
o Buy in bulk at bulk stores
o Looking closely at non-essentials
o Defining what our monthly expenses were
o Stop robbing peter to pay Paul
Having to live on a fixed income gives us a more stable lifestyle. We know exactly how much money we will have each month. By understanding our income we can use a "working" budget. For example: we use wood to heat with and propane to cook with. Both cost the same, $65; however we do not need to buy both every month. One month we buy propane. This will last about three months. So for two months we buy wood. This helps to stock pile wood in the summer months when we do not need to use the wood. It is not hard to make up a budget. I use my Excel in my Microsoft Office but there are a number of accounting programs out there and some are free. For those who do not have a computer there is always the old fashion way with paper and pencil, whatever works. The hardest part is sticking to it.
Having Fun on a Fixed Income:
We found that there is life after social security. There are so many things out there free or nearly free:
o Volunteer work
o There are classes at the local college you can attend for free.
o Meet-up with friends for coffee
o Museums and libraries
These are only a few things we do to have fun. We still go out once a month to eat. Just not to high price restaurants.

I had to see the doc today. no biggie. I had my knee replace and it needed to be looked at. would I do it again? No, for a number of reasons. I have been an active person; swimming, hiking, biking, and just walking. I still swim 14-16 laps in the Y pool my goal is 20 laps and up. I have one of those "smart watches" that counts your steps, exercising, treadmill, biking, and even heart beat and a whole lot of other stuff I have no idea how it works. The reason I got it was for me to push myself to be more active.
