A poem about childhood, innocence, and the loss thereof
There's something to be said for childhood.
For easy laughter, for friends and family you see every day,
For easy trusting, for lusting for nothing but attention and candy,
For going to the beach and getting your butt all sandy.
The light in a person's eyes is one of the most beautiful sights in the world,
But the world can be unfathomably cruel to the innocent.

There's something to be said for adulthood.
For polite smiles, for holding your family and friends tight whenever you see them because you never see them for long,
For being careful of who you trust, for lusting after success and sex,
For going to the beach and finding peace in the waves.
Knowledge and wisdom in a person's eyes can be very reassuring,
But too often those eyes are devoid of the light they held in childhood.

I love light, in certain doses.
When it snows, the light reflecting off the white can be blinding,
But comforting at the same time that the sky wasn't always grey.
When the sky is dim, or when we sit inside,
Things seem a little more grim, but our worries may more easily subside
Because we can more easily deal with what we're looking at.

So it is with the light in a person's eyes.
Seeing someone from the south watch the sky cry freezing white for the first time
Warms the heart,
But when the same light starts to fade when a person gazes upon true tragedy,
Hearts harden, and heal into tough scars.
Hard hearts make it hard for them to melt, to warm, to tug on their strings,
To make them sing.
