A prompt of 'Evacuation'. An Exercise on Dialogue and Structure.
“It is believed that the five beings walked out of the First Baptist Church here in Waco, Texas moments after it exploded.”
“One resident reported that the creatures were over ten feet tall and shone as bright as the sun. They had wings that extended high into the sky, and they floated above the ground in a deliberate, premeditated direction. All five of them carried bladed weapons,”
“We’re getting news that they are slowly heading towards Dallas. Some civilians who’ve gazed upon them were rendered mindless, following close behind them, these, Angels?

“John, John, sorry to interrupt, is there any military involvement?”

Topa turned the TV off and threw her apron on the counter. The customers groaned in protest and whispered to each other with worried looks wrinkled across their faces.

“Come on, clear out,” Topa said, “You heard them, we have to move. Go, find somewhere safe,”

Brian scoffed, “It’s clearly a hoax Topa, more religious fanatics claiming the beginning of Rapture. There is a new story every day.”

“On an emergency news broadcast?” Topa said.

Brian raised his eyebrows and gazed at the TV. His face froze in ponderous thought before getting to his feet and turning to the people, “I guess it can’t do any harm to get out of the city for a while, you heard her,”

“Just what I was thinking,” Topa slammed her hand on the counter a few times, “Come on, out the lot of you, breakfast is on the house,”

The customer’s cheers resonated with the screeching of their chairs being pushed back as they rose to their feet. Topa nodded at them, “Thank you. Stay safe now. I’ll see you all soon when this blows over,”

The customers shuffled out of the door, collecting their jackets and hats from the coat stands. Winter’s wind swirled into the Dinner. The hair on Topa’s arms stood on end. She rubbed the warmth back into them as she shivered.

“Brian, what about you?”

“Leave the keys, I’ll lock up. There’s no safer place than here with the shutters down,”

“Thanks, I’m heading to the school to pick up Samus,”

“Call me when you get in,” Brian said, “So I can laugh at you when this is all over,” He smirked.

Topa kissed the old fool’s forehead and left, letting him turn back to his half eaten pancakes.
