Writing assignment
I had heard it before. "You can never go home", and I wasn't.
I was going back to a place that was never home.
There were no warm feelings attached to this place.
I was returning to honor an old debt

I was quiet as the miles ticked off.
My thoughts drifted to the past.
So much hurt attached to my destination.
A young boy so carefree and naive.

Normalcy was wrenched away in a single act.
Innocence was lost, never to be regained.
I moved away, I thought never to return.
My heart tugged on me as I neared my destination.
One single white rose placed on a mound of dirt.

I turned around and headed home.
