A twist on Maya Angelou's poem, "I know why the caged bird sings".
Soaring among the clouds,
liberty knows no bounds.
Wings spread wide and out,
a delightful journey, no doubt.
Choosing to land on the sand,
moving in ways I understand.
Slow and easy,
never to hurry.
Wings flap and it rises,
never having to stay,
forever independence day.

Some time later,
liberty is no longer.
Held captive in a cage,
where it will perish with age.
Reflecting on a time long past,
when the skies were so vast.
Strolling on the sand,
a pleasure once so grand.
Yearning to land and soar,
to be free once more.
