Tangled

Tangled up and twisted
My words, they fall away
With locks charted and listed
Like the things I'd like to say

Tressed into a tale
Woven in a braid
Ringlets long and frail
Of new looks we are afraid

Designs and styles muted
That didn't make the cut
A plait so convoluted
A plot so closed and shut

Where heroes of the hour
Leave a princess left unfound
Rapunzel's in her tower
… I'm tongue tied on the ground

Midst locks of hair abandoned
Fired orange at the tips
Frosted white, I'm branded
Burned by phantom lips

Unaware they've marked me
With eyes a sharp ice blue
The truths I wish she could see
Through lies I've marked as true

Through words rhapsodic waxen
The pony trail weaves
Through tale strands, straw, flaxen
A mane, yarn pale, leaves

Wrapping round, a golden crown
Swept back, such ends are split
A story long, worn, up and down
More than I would admit

Cut short too often ending
With a whimper, not a bang
With tonal colours blending
And a dye cast bell oft rang

In eyes opaque and misted
From the things I'd like to say
Tangled up and twisted
My words... they fall away
