Prompt Words: New Years, resolution, gone, astray, champagne, dancing, laughter
Each New Year is a passing shadow,
that is gone in the blink of an eye
we ignore the question haunting our minds,
which continually ask us why.

Why do we repeat year after year,
the same futile, inefficient action
on each succeeding New Years' Day,
we make a new spectacular resolution.

We ring in the New Year with dancing,
magnums of champagne, and laughter,
the ball drops and the fireworks explode,
we forget our resolutions the day after.

When the year begins with such enthusiasm,
why do our resolutions go astray,
how can we keep our goals moving,
in the months after New Years' Day.

Line Count: 16
Form: Quatrain stanzas rhyming abcb.
