Just musing.
Legacy

Looking into the sleeping
face of a newborn
it is hard to dwell
on the topic of death.

Cherry cheeks
are a far contrast
from the drained pallor
of one passed.

Death gouges at the gut,
one withers
and another
gone without goodbye.

They return through the tilt
of an infant's eyes,
or familiar long fingers that clasp
Grandma's thumb.
