Zombies at Dawn

Headstones rise
out of the fog and murky darkness,
shadowy figures shamble
from gravestone to gravestone
searching
for their own names
and epitaphs.

They were summoned
back into the land of the living
to serve the nefarious
desires
of the forces of iniquity.

Now,
as the claws of night retract,
they must descend
back into their tombs
before
the first rays of dawn
shine through the weeping willow guardians
of the Zombie Creek cemetery.
