What became of two lovers after many years together? Who was the pretender?
"Turn Around "

I thought I knew you and you knew me.
I thought we knew us, don't you see.
Turn around, Darl'n, look closely at this face.
Search for me there; remember our young love's trace.
My memory served unconsciously to cover your continued lies.
You pretended while holding hands through laughter and cries.
Play and giggles, sadness and thanksgiving built on congenial ground;
you had me believing old age side by side, and for this we were bound.
I must've been guilty looking the other way.
Reveal to me now what you have to say.
If you mindfully intended, tell me please;
was it your purpose to taunt and tease?
Of you, Sweetheart, I ask,
hear my plea; remove your mask.
No more empty promises and no more lies.
I find you wearing a pitiful disguise.
How did we become strangers after a lifetime of years?
Turn around and know my heart dissolving in these tears.
I thought we knew us, you and me.
With your leaving, how could this be?
