Lovers in a burning relationship.

We sit at the kitchen table
our mouths sweating as the smell of chocolate penetrates into our nostrils
as I stand up to open the kitchen window, You cut into the cake
To my return, more than half of it gone
I run away with the waning moon to tend to my wounded heart
You come after me, begging not to dwell on things past
Afraid of darkness and demons that haunt me when left to myself
I bring back my body to your kitchen table
This time you hold the knife carefully so it doesnt hurt me
And have me taste from your sweetest piece - a lure to return my heart to you
Daily walks, never retreating when I provoke you
slowly I become yours once more
Today we find ourselves at this kitchen table again
Communicating but through the cake that's in front of us
A cake that was once sweet to me
I put a piece on my tongue, calling love to return home
but bitterness arrives instead
It spreads in my heart like the cough leaves my grandma used to give me when I was young. All has flown away, except the memories of the love you threw away into the trashcan while I stood at the kitchen window
