Honorable Mention "Poetic Traditions Poetry Contest Round 47".

Amidst the ancients, a soldier's out of place,
History's hidden world in his face.
Turning stone to weathered clay,
From home, long astray.
Despair makes
prey
like vile snakes,
To feast on the day.
Joy, a universe away,
When lost lovers did briefly embrace,
Amidst the ancients, a soldier's out of place.

Andaree: A rhyming syllabic form with an 11 syllable line and descends by 2 syllables in each line until it reaches 1 syllable and then it ascends back to 11 syllables, which is a repeat of the first line. The rhyme scheme is AabbcbcbbaA.
