How memory can let us down
Memory
Is Selective,
Driven by emotion.
Amazing, devastating, builds
Places.

Places
To revisit
Permanent, real, concrete,
Stories to tell, retell again,
We see.

We see
In great detail,
Colours are sharp, so clear.
But, mine became hazy, diffused,
Drifting.

Drifting,
Lost on the wind,
Unable to be grasped.
So much that is new now leaving,
Fades away.

Fades away,
Clutching, seizing,
Finding obscure phantoms.
Life standing still, no gradient,
Stagnant.

Stagnant,
All cells that die,
Cause misunderstandings.
Lazy, stupid, slow, unable
To learn.

To learn
Is natural,
Fulfil all we can be.
When the flow stops, we just remain,
I stopped.

I stopped
Until the times,
In white sterile places;
Panicked faces, decisions made,
Agreed.

Agreed,
The only choice.
My hope for the future,
Put my life in the surgeon's hands.
They wait.

They wait
For signs, movement.
Swollen, but whole, complete.
Time for recovery slow, but
On track.
