who now is the watchman, where stand some faithful men...
The sentinel at his post does stand
the watchman in his tower
to guard the land in which they live
against an evil power

From out of lands of fire and smoke
the mighty seal was broken
Delivered forth from bondage there
the fell beast was awoken

Marching swift and marching strong
the power is enraged
trapping the people they compass
in an iron cage

Listen oh heavens stars above
Great God, Please hear our cry
Have mercy, please, deliver us
our doom is coming nigh

Like thunder rumbling across the land
one hundred drums do beat
they sap the hope from out mens souls
and trample it with their feet

a hero or a warrior
is there no one left to fight
where stands the faithful sentinel
have they all now taken flight

then a shrill blast on a trumpet,
like a pure and golden song
from out of the watchman's tower
it was the battle gong

it pierced into the darkness
drew back the evil veil
gave to the men new courage
to go forward and prevail

at early mornings coming,
in battle they engaged
and with the advancing nightfall
they beheld his awful rage

with the ensuing darkness
his might was risen great
he strode up unto the city
and stood before the gate

the beast bellowed forth a challenge
to that tower in the night
and the trumpeteer came forward
without a sword, to fight

his trumpet was of silver, brass,
and lifted to his lips
with every note that issued out
brandished as a whip

they fought for countless hours
the watchman and the beast
both growing very weary
but not giving in the least

then one final triumphant blast did ring
it broke upon the clouds
calling down the lightning
with thunder terrible loud

The power then was broken
it is now lost among the sea
and yet this poem remains
to be read by you and me

the fell beast has been forgotten
so it will rise again
who now is the watchman
where stand some faithful men?
