The grass always seems greener on the other side of the hill.
I Wish I Were

I wish I were a candle,
Glowing with a flame;
Mesmerizing, magnetic.
I wouldn't need a name.

I wish I were a sports car,
Really fast, and red;
Convertible and classic,
With curvey roads ahead.

I wish I were a crystal drop,
Upon a great chandelier;
Reflecting and refracting,
Stealing dark without the sere.

I wish I were a mountain,
With dirt, green grass, and snow;
Majestic in the distance,
For all the world to know.

I wish I were a river,
Racing to the ocean;
Frothing and determined,
A life affirming potion.

I wish I were a song,
Breezing receptive ears;
Melodic, melancholy,
Stealing thoughts of fears.

I wish I were a dance,
Worn upon some feet;
Snappy, enigmatic,
Keeping their own beat.

I wish I were a wagging tail,
Attached to a friendly dog;
Amiable, accepting,
Breaking through heart's fog.

I wish I were an issue,
Inflaming apathy;
Enticing life like lover's lips
Which pay the grateful fee.

But, alas, I am a human,
Comprised of flesh and bone;
Sentient and mortal,
With a life I need to atone.
