Summary of this Book...
From Amazon (abridged): Meet Dexter Morgan, a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likeable: he only kills bad people. And his job as a blood splatter expert for the Miami police department puts him in the perfect position to identify his victims. But when a series of brutal murders bearing a striking similarity to his own style start turning up, Dexter is caught between being flattered and being frightened.

From me: Dexter, the character is really quite likable. The rest of the characters, I'm not sure about.
This type of Book is good for...
I have no idea if this is good for the fans of the show or not, as I have not seen the show (I can here the cries of "Shame! Shame! from here).

In terms of the thriller/mystery/crime genre, this fits into a nice little pocket where the good guy is the bad guy, relative to the really bad guys.

It's also quite short - so good for travelling and such.
I especially liked...
The depth of Dexter's character. His monologues, thoughts and insights are really well done. His relationship with his 'Dark Passenger' is very interesting. Overall, he's exceptionally witty, darkly humorous, and despite his obvious human flaws, still makes irrational decisions and mistakes, and this vulnerability makes him somehow even more likable.

I mean he's a serial killer. He shouldn't be likable. But here I am, liking him.

I also like Harry, and how he saw Dexter for what he was, and used that to channel a moral code of sorts to keep Dex in check. It's an interesting exploration of nature/nurture.
I didn't like...
Outside of Dexter, I found the characters to somewhat two-dimensional (though a good run was given at Deb, his 'sister'). Some of the writing outside of Dexter was a little stiff.
I recommend this Book because...
It's short, it's easy to read, and even though it has gory elements, it's not so far out there that you'll be forced to put the book down and question your life choices.
I don't recommend this Book because...
I'm a little afraid...if fans of the show are disappointed when they read this book...please don't email me. *Laugh*
Further Comments...
Dexter is a 5-star character. The entirety of the rating is based on the book as a whole, but I think Dexter alone makes the read worth it.
