Summary of this Book...
Robert Langdon returns, this time in Spain, to put together the mystery of what his former student (and now billionaire) Edmond Kirsch has discovered that he claims will 'change the face of science forever'. Chaos, action, adventure and religious quandaries ensue.
This type of Book is good for...
Fans of Browns previous Langdon books (this is book #5), history buffs, art buffs, action/adventure lovers, mystery lovers
I especially liked...
I enjoy the Langdon books for what they are: simple; unabashedly formulaic; and somewhat quaint. Brown's use of detailed descriptions of events and places is always well done. For this book, it was Guadi and modernism. It's light reading that gives a you a little extra to go chasing down, if you choose, with no real need to commit to either.
I didn't like...
I found most of the characters quite grating this time around, particularly broody, sulky Julien. I don't expect new approaches from Brown, he has a formula, the formula works and is almost comforting. This time though, it was so formulaic that the theme lost any sense of originality. I had it figured out less than a third of the way in. I was hoping for a twist-on-a-twist, but was disappointed that he went with the familiar.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Tell Dan Brown haters to back off. Yes, this was not the best Langdon book. But to bash his formulaic nature at book #5? Come on now, you should've jumped ship at book 2.
I recommend this Book because...
It's part of the series and it's not going to waste your time. I just don't think it was the best Langdon book written. It's a quick read.
Further Comments...
I'd say I'm done with the series, but I will read the next one. It was a swing and a miss for me, but I've not given up on Langdon yet. He's just too darn likeable and the books are too darn easy to have fun with.
