It wasn't meant that way, but I do like stories to be more than just all out action. I don't think a story has to be realistic in its setting to be intellectual though. Ted Chiang's stories are straight up fantasy or science fiction for example, but he tends to ask pretty big questions about religion and/or science. And even though A Song of Ice and Fire doesn't dive into scientific questions or philosophical theories, it does highlight how everybody consider themselves to be good persons even the ones that arguably do evil things. And it shows how good people might not exactly be good leaders, and even how certain otherwise positive traits can be negative in some situations. To me, these are intellectual stories.

Well, the project is being worked on, or rather the first draft is. But once it's done, then it'll be left dead and buried forever. The story is simply too flawed for me to be able to fix it at my current level of writing. It was written during NaNoWriMo as a challenge to myself (I usually only write short stories), and it was fun and difficult, but I just don't think it's worth while trying to make it work when I could be spending my time practicing on new stories and writing exercises.
