Without seeing it, I can't really say. But I will say this: don't let one other person's opinion influence you to the point of 'trashing' it! In fact, don't EVER throw ANYTHING away that you've written! Trust me, and take it from somebody who knows!
If you believe in your story, then I'd advise you to submit it, maybe with a little revision? But like I said, I haven't read it, so I can't really say.
Good luck, and don't ever let other people tear you or your ideas down!
