The war that brought the world to its knees.
She stares at the map with hollow eyes and a vacant stare. Trying to plan the most strategic route to the next destination. It wasn't safe here anymore.
She was a wanderer, a scavenger. The lowest of the low in this new time. World war three had torn the planet apart at the seams and there was nothing left for anyone any more.
Anyone still alive after the war that brought the world to its knees lived by the same single rule, "Take what you can, give nothing back". Even children would skin you alive if you came between them and Their next meal.

The scenery was quite something to behold. This once lush green earth had been transformed into a lifeless wasteland. Just another rock floating through the ever expanding matter of space. Pollution from mass explosions had mostly destroyed the ozone creating hotspots around the planet, giving it a permanent, almost sepia kind of tone in the light of day.
She was accustomed to this way of living, it wasn't as if she had ever known any different. She was born into this new world and nothing in her lifetime was ever going to change it back. The old world was forgotten, very few still lived that knew of its existence. Stories weren't passed down, because there was simply no one left to tell.

It started with North Korea. They decided to scrap the Nukes and invest in Pathological Bioweapons. However the United States caught wind of operations and were first to "drop the bomb" for lack of a better word, to put a stop to it. It backfired and the WMD was released. Although this was just speculation now for those who had the time of day to care. Not many did, for 2217 was another year that those who died, didn't stay dead for long. The infected didn't last, corpses rotted away at an alarming rate due to the make up of the pathogen and only ever sought viable hosts. When they began to die out, so did the virus but right now reanimation of the dead was the least of her worries.
