Scanty snippets on/of poetry
A poet has to manifest herself in a safe environment. This is such a place for my early baby steps. The wonders of the world and my inner thoughts mingle. They become one. It’s a journey of the soul, a spark of the mind, and a bit of spit. For more "Poet @ Work 2 [18+], "In honest simple verse [E]

A glimpse of nature

On the other hand: it might be a brooding place for challenges and poetry contests, some of which required ONE STAR RATING. (In case somebody wonders about the *StarB* *StarB*gracing this blog) A large group of writers participated in this challenge that required to rate as low as possible. So, it doesn't mean this blog is a bad blog or that they reviewed mean, it was required and this is the consequence. Alas!

"The Not-So-Daily Poem [13+]

Time

How did it get so late so soon?
How did it get so late?
Now it is past the daily noon
Already on this date

Why do the seconds go that fast?
Where do they disappear?
What can I do to make it last?
When death it is I fear

With every sip of breath I take
The ending closes in
Wrinkles of old age do make
Degeneration of the skin

Oh Time, where do you fleed toward?
Oh Time, where do you go?
If leaving me behind this start
You stop the forward flow

I can’t go back but follow through
So, stuck in this line’s vault
Just one way up is to renew
Never stops it to a halt

Forward we go as sure we must
As rays that never end
In circles of Life’s wind we trust
Like bamboo sprouts, we bend

LC:24

Prompt: You must use the following quote from Dr. Seuss: How did it get so late so soon?
You may not use tick, tock, minute(s), hour(s), year(s), or birthday.

Surprise!

Homecoming from birthday party workshop
My dog had a surprise waiting to top
Diarrhea poop on the floor did drop
While I was out of the house he let go
And bah! yuk, the stench was overwhelming
Could not be mad, no emotions whelming
Cleaned with soapy water, the mop helming
Wrong place at wrong time for dog’s bowel flow

Sunny boat trip

Today
Lovely weather
Boat trip on the water
Full of friends, family, and joy
We ate, drank, watched the sailboats passing by
Waves, houses on the waterfront
Smiling people on shore
Seagulls splashing
Today

Murderous Poet

It’s late at night, I am wond’ring
Rhyming, thinking, a bit pond’ring
- two flies buzzing, circling, blund’ring…
Wished them dead!

Billie Holiday (1915-1959) – Gloomy Sunday (1960)

"Gloomy Sunday"

Sunday is gloomy
My hours are slumberless
Dearest the shadows
I live with are numberless
Little white flowers will
Never awaken you
Not where the black coach
Of sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thought of
Ever returning you
Would they be angry
If I thought of joining you
Gloomy Sunday

Gloomy is sunday
With shadows I spend it all
My heart and I have
Decided to end it all
Soon there'll be candles
And prayers that are sad
I know, let them not weep
Let them know
That I'm glad to go

Death is no dream
For in death I'm caressing you
With the last breath of my
Soul I'll be blessing you

Gloomy Sunday
Dreaming
I was only dreaming
I wake and I find you
Asleep in the deep of
My heart
Dear

Darling I hope that my dream
Never haunted you
My heart is telling you
How much I wanted you
Gloomy Sunday

POEM 11 – week August 16, 2021
Compose a poem using all three of these words:
smoke, mirrors, deception

Line Count: 12 lines, minimum
Required Form: Poet's choice

This week I quit smoking
For all the wrong reasons
(I did not do it for myself)
When mirrors were in front of me
Noticing the deception
I took another puff
Of smoke
And failed me

This time looking deep inside
Remaining tranquil and in peace
Learning my lesson
I stopped again
And I will continue
Doing so
Till it sticks –
my demon done with

POEM 8, week July 26, 2021
Write a poem that personifies an emotion: love, anger, fear, sadness, joy, for example.

In awe

An unknown contemporary poet wrote his thing,
Strong, powerful, and full of imagery

Blown away by this striking talent
I grabbled up and started reading

I wanted to write like this
I wanted to …

So, I started
Again

POEM 7, week July 19, 2021

Make the title of your poem
"What I Remember"
and then let the title inspire you.

Line count minimum: 12, no max
Feel free to use any form you like

What I remember

Remember fifteen years
Love of the canine breed
It is when we first meet
An instant click.

Fox-terrier, you were
Loyal, goofy, and smart
Closed you into my heart
Went all the way.

Those last days of sorrow
Old, grey, and with a fit
Your eyes suddenly lit
-it's time to go.

I held you in my arms
Carried you in the night
And at morning light
Off to the vet.

So, there you were put down
I watched you leave this world
Back home in bed, I curled
I was alone.

My little friend, my all
Rest in peace; you'll be missed
Within two months, I kissed
Another dog.

POEM 4- week June 28, 2021 (LC: 12)
A color

Can’t remember the color of your eyes
Were they blue?

Can’t remember the color of your voice
Was it dark brown?

The silence between us hellish white
My anger deep red

Then dark faded in
Black as the night
Blue my mood

All this, a lie:
I never loved you

Still, the colors of those early days
Were golden like the summer

Pretty as the greenest of springs

Sassy

All that and more
Once, long ago

Fearlessly!

Sassy, bold, invincible, superwoman

Mosaic shines
All glued together again

Uncertainty:
Think about a time in your life when you couldn’t make a decision,

Dunno

Which way

Keeping up appearances

Three months of love

It took another ten
To let you go
